Biography

Savannah Matthews (2002) is an emerging Anglo-Indian Australian artist practicing on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar in Boorloo. She graduated from Edith Cowan University in 2022 with a major in Visual Arts. Using mediums such as watercolour, embroidery, and textiles, her work explores themes of femininity, identity, and perspective. Savannah aims to empower and validate the female experience while creating a positive representation of women. She believes in the importance of continuing feminist work within contemporary society. Savannah was awarded the Louise Macfie Painting Prize in 2022 at Edith Cowan's Arts and Humanities Graduate Show and the People's Vote at the KickstART Youth Exhibition in 2023. Her photography work was featured in Licorice Zine's most recent issue, Parallel Perspectives. In 2023, Savannah's piece, "I Cry, I Cry, I Cry," was showcased at the Art Gallery of Western Australia as part of The Lester Prize.
